With the 2015 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra, the Perth Mint celebrates the 25th anniversary of its popular Australian Kookaburra silver bullion coin series. In honor of the occasion, the Mint will replicate the original 1990 design for this year's release. Struck from .999 fine silver, each coin contains 1 troy ounce of fine silver content. They are designated as legal tender with a face value of 1 Dollar.
As it did during the coin's first year of issue (1990), the reverse design will feature a right-facing adult kookaburra perched on a tree stump. The scene is surrounded by eucalyptus leaves and a fern. The legend “THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA” runs along the top half of the outer rim, followed by “1 OZ .999 SILVER.” To denote the 25th anniversary of the coin series, the dual date “1990-2015” is struck at the bottom rim, and the customary “P” mintmark for the Perth Mint is replaced by “P25” to the right of the main image.
The obverse of the coin is graced by an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right. She wears her royal diadem and is encircled by rim inscriptions indicating Her Majesty's name, as well as the coin's country of origin, year of issue, and face value.
