The Perth Mint's annual Lunar Calendar series of gold and silver coins is one of the most popularly collected coin series of its kind anywhere in the world. This nearly universal theme is back again with the limited edition 2016 Australia 1 oz Proof Silver Monkey - Colorized coins! Only 10,000 of these coins will be minted for worldwide distribution. Each .999 fine silver coin comes safely packaged in its own display box from the mint, along with its certificate of authenticity (COA). Each coin is legal tender with a face value of 1 Dollar and a total of 1 troy ounce of pure silver content.
On the reverse, two small monkeys sit upon a tree branch. The scene is shown in full color, revealing the intricacy of Ing Ing Jong's design. An unpicked peach is still on the branch off to the right, while the smaller monkey holds a peach in its hand. "Year of the Monkey" is inscribed along the bottom rim, while the Chinese character for "Monkey" is placed near the top rim in between the two primates. The "P" mintmark for Perth is found against the left rim.
The obverse is dominated by a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley. As a proof coin, the frosted relief devices of the design stand out beautifully against mirror-like fields. "ELIZABETH II" and the name of the issuing country, "AUSTRALIA," are inscribed around the top half of the rim. The weight and purity specs "1oz 999 SILVER" is found along the bottom rim, followed by the year-date "2016" and the denomination "1 Dollar."
While the Lunar series coins are always a hit with collectors and silver stackers alike, the limited mintage of 10,000 makes these 2016 1 oz Silver Lunar Monkey colorized proofs that much more attractive to collectors. Pick yours up for competitive pricing from Gainesville Coins today!
