The 2016 American Silver Eagle remains the world's most popular silver coin. Since it's introduction in 1986, it has continued to grow in popularity. As legal tender, these coins bear a face value of 1 Dollar. Each silver bullion coin is struck from .999 fine silver and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver.
The obverse design uses A.A. Weinman's Walking Liberty motif. Lady Liberty is shown striding to the left, carrying a laurel branch as she beckons to the rising sun. The legend "LIBERTY" stretches across the top half of the coin, while the year-date "2016" is found at the bottom rim. "IN GOD WE TRUST" is placed to the right.
The reverse shows John Mercanti's heraldic eagle design. A bald eagle protected by an unsupported shield holds an olive branch in one talon and a bundle of arrows in the other. Thirteen stars appear above the eagle's head in an inverted triangle, while the banner in the eagle's beak reads "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The issuing nation "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed across the top half of the rim, while the bottom rim reads "1 OZ. FINE SILVER~ONE DOLLAR."
No silver coin is as trusted worldwide as the American Silver Eagle, which enjoys the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government for its fine silver content. Look for the 2017 American Silver Eagle to be available for purchase from Gainesville Coins in January of 2017!
