2016 marks the 500th anniversary of a key 1516 law which mandated that Bavarian beer could only be made from water, barley, and hops. What better way to celebrate this historic tradition than with the 2016 Bavarian Purity Law Beer Cap Silver Coin - Palau $1! These .999 fine silver coins are shaped like a real beer bottle cap, perfectly capturing the theme while still containing 0.0804 troy ounce (2.5 grams) of pure silver. Just 2,500 of these coins were minted for worldwide distribution. Each of these legal tender coins has a face value of 1 Dollar and comes with its original display box and certificate of authenticity (COA).
The colorized reverse design (the top side of the bottle cap) features a pair of beer mugs clinking together with a crown above, set against a background pattern of blue and white diamonds, the symbol of Bavaria. The year-date "2016" is inscribed below. The outer rim bears the inscriptions "500 YEARS" along the top rim and "BAVARIAN PURITY LAW" along the bottom rim. A pair of hops are found against the left and right portions of the rim.
The obverse, which corresponds to the underside of the cap, shows the coat of arms of Palau. A man rowing a canoe appears above a shield that contains a scene of Neptune (i.e. Poseidon) and a mermaid with a chest of undersea treasure. "RAINBOW'S END," the national motto, is found just below Neptune. The issuing country "REPUBLIC OF PALAU" runs across the top rim with three stars on each side. The denomination "$1" is placed at the bottom rim.
Both sides of the design are given a gorgeous proof finish, with frosted relief and mirrored fields. Each coin is accompanied by its themed display case, and the COA even resembles a beer coaster! With their low mintage of only 2,500 coins and their wonderfully creative bottle cap shape, these 2016 Palau $1 Bavarian Purity Law Beer Cap Silver Coins will stand out in any collection!
