Expanding on last year's popular 1 oz design, the new 2017 10 oz "The Hunter" silver round from Gainesville Coins is an exciting re-imagining of the classic "buffalo nickel" generic design. Struck from 10 troy ounces of .999 fine silver, this exclusive design portrays a realistic scene from the Old West.
The obverse is dominated by a bare-chested Plains Indian buffalo hunter, taking careful aim with his drawn bow. The motto "The Hunter" appears above the hunter's outstretched arm. The background of the scene features the sharp slopes of the Rocky Mountains beneath a canopy of clouds.
The reverse of the 10 oz The Hunter silver round is a realistic portrayal of two American bison, better known as the buffalo. The pair are grazing on the western edge of the Great Plains, where it meets the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. A mass of clouds go scudding high above the mountains. The reverse is inscribed with the year-date 2017 on the bottom of the scene, with the weight and purity of "Ten Troy Ounces .999 Fine Silver" arching along the upper rim.
