Over the last two decades, the Royal Canadian Mint has introduced a variety of popular collectible bullion coin series.
The Predator Series is yet another entry in this catalog. Like many similar series produced in Canada, it celebrates the beauty and majesty of the country's natural wildlife.
The 2017 1 oz Silver Lynx Coin continues this tradition in extra-pure .9999 fine silver! Each coin bears a legal tender face value of 5 Dollars (CAD) and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver by weight.
A lynx, which is a distinctive Big Cat species with a long coat and pointed ears, is depicted pouncing toward its prey on the reverse of the coin. Just to the bottom-left of the lynx, a small maple leaf privy mark containing the number "17" is laser-etched into the coin as an anti-counterfeiting measure. "CANADA" and the purity "9999" are placed along the top rim. Inscriptions at the bottom rim read "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR." The design's background is filled with a distinctive radial line pattern.
Susanna Blunt's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse design. The Queen faces toward the right and the same radial line finish is used on the obverse, as well. Rim inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II" across the top of the design, with the denomination "5 DOLLARS" and the year of issue "2017" at the bottom rim. The edge of the coin has a reeded design.
Collectors will be thrilled to add the 2017 Canada 1 oz Silver Lynx Coin to the rest of the Predator Series. This coin also appeals to bullion investors who are interested in buying .9999 fine silver with the added benefit of government-issued legal tender status.
