Since 1979, the Royal Canadian Mint has provided the international markets with one of the most reliable, cutting-edge, and aesthetically pleasing gold coins in history: the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf. Noted for its extra-pure .9999 fine gold, the Gold Maple has remained among the best-selling gold bullion coins each and every year. Each 2018 1 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coin contains a total of 1 troy ounce of fine gold content. The mint designates a $50 face value to each coin.
The reverse design shows Walter Ott's classic maple leaf design, rendered in exceptionally high detail with every rib, vein, and crinkle of the leaf visible and captured with great realism. The field (background) of the coin uses a patented radial lines finish that is both aesthetically pleasing and an important anti-counterfeiting measure. Another security feature is the micro-engraved maple leaf privy mark visible in the bottom-right of the design. The fineness "9999" appears on either side of the main maple leaf, while the issuing country "CANADA" runs along the top rim. At the bottom rim, inscriptions include "FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR."
On the obverse, Susanna Blunt's unique portrait of Queen Elizabeth II facing right is shown. Fittingly, "ELIZABETH II" is inscribed across the rim above Her Majesty's head. At the bottom rim, the denomination "50 DOLLARS" and the year-date "2018" are both inscribed. The same radial line finish, which creates an eye-popping light diffraction effect, is used for the obverse. The edge of the coin is reeded.
Whether for investing or collecting purposes, the Canadian Gold Maple continues to be a top-seller around the world. Its multiple security features are unrivaled in the bullion coin industry, thanks to the sophistication of the Royal Canadian Mint's facilities and employees.
