For the first time in its two-century history, the United States Mint has introduced a palladium bullion coin for investors and collectors alike. Struck from .9995 fine (99.95% pure) palladium, each of these coins contains 1 troy ounce of pure palladium and is designated with a legal tender face value of $25.
The obverse design of the coin uses the classic and beloved "Mercury dime" design (also known as "Winged Liberty") that appeared on the circulating 10-cent coin in the U.S. from 1916 to 1947. A bust of Lady Liberty facing left is shown in fantastic detail. Miss Liberty wears an old-style cap that has wings on the side, symbolizing freedom of thought. The legend "LIBERTY" is spread across the top half of the rim, while the year-date "2017" and the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" are inscribed near the bottom of the bust. To initials "AW" of the original designer, A.A. Weinman, can be seen to the bottom-right.
On the reverse, a stunning design of a bald eagle is shown in incredible detail. Every fold and feather of the eagle comes to life in the coin's relief. The bald eagle is perched upon a rock while holding an olive branch in its talon and beak. The issuing country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed along the top rim, while the denomination "$25" appears to the left. The bottom of the rock at the bottom rim features the coin's weight and purity, "1 OZ. Pd .9995 FINE," and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in a special incuse inscription that is sunken into the field of the coin rather than above the surface in relief.
In addition to being the first-ever palladium coin in the history of the U.S. Mint, the new 2017 1 oz Palladium American Eagle Coin uses a pair of fantastic, artistic designs that truly symbolize the values and natural majestic character of the United States. Investor interest in palladium bullion has risen right along with palladium prices over the past few years, so be sure to add this gorgeous coin to your collection from Gainesville Coins before our inventory is depleted!
