Details & Specifications
The world-famous Chinese Lunar calendar coins from Perth Mint are back for 2018! Struck from the same extra-pure .9999 fine gold, the 2018 Year of the Dog 1/10 oz Lunar Gold Coin is legal tender with a face value of 15 Dollars. Each coin contains a total of one-tenth ounce (0.1 troy oz) of pure gold.
Artist Ing Ing Jong's reverse design shows a dog peering over its shoulder, one paw off the ground. A tree and rocks are in the backdrop. The "P" mintmark for Perth is placed against the rim to the left. The inscription "Year of the Dog" curls along the bottom rim, while the Chinese character for "Dog" from the Chinese zodiac (as opposed to the character for a dog, the actual animal) is found to the top-right of the design.
The obverse design is graced by an effigy of Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Rim inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II" and the issuing country "AUSTRALIA" across the top rim, with the year-date "2018," as well as the denomination "15 DOLLARS" and weight and purity "1/10 OZ 9999 GOLD" along the bottom rim. The coin's edge is reeded.
Those born during the years 1910, 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, and newborns in 2018 are all considered to be under the sign of the Dog. The Chinese New Year, celebrated all around the world, begins in February.
