The American Silver Eagle made its debut in 1986 and has been minted annually ever since. This .999 fine silver coin is U.S. legal tender with a $1 face value, but it is in demand among investors and coin collectors due to its 1 troy ounce of fine silver content and classic design. This 2018 American Silver Eagle has been professionally graded by NGC and received the highest possible grade of MS70! The "First Day of Issue" designation means it was certified by NGC on the first day 2018-dated Silver Eagles were issued by the U.S. Mint.
Lady Liberty is shown striding confidently to the left on the obverse. This design, known as "Walking Liberty" and created by Adolph A. Weinman, was first used for the half-dollar coin between 1916-1947. Lady Liberty is shown wearing a dress decorated like the American flag as she strides confidently toward the rising sun -- a new day. The year-date "2018" appears beneath her foot at the bottom rim while "IN GOD WE TRUST" is placed to the right. The legend "LIBERTY" stretches around the top half of the rim.
The reverse design is the work of the most recent Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, John Mercanti. A heraldic eagle has its wings spread while holding a bundle of arrows and an olive branch in its talons. The issuing nation "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed across the top rim with thirteen stars below. The bottom rim bears inscriptions for the weight and composition of the coin as well as the denomination, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER~ONE DOLLAR." The edge design is reeded.
Graded coins are more attractive to collectors because they certify the condition of the coin. In this case, a 2018 American Silver Eagle NGC MS70 First Day of Issue can boast the highest possible grade a coin can receive! Shop for graded Silver Eagles to add to your collection at Gainesville Coins.
