The flagship silver bullion coin of the United States Mint is the American Silver Eagle, a one-ounce silver coin that has a legal tender face value of 1 Dollar. Each coin is struck from .999 fine silver and is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government. This 2018 American Silver Eagle has been certified MS69 by NGC, only one point shy of a perfect grade. It comes with the limited edition Bald Eagle Label from NGC and was graded on the first day that 2018 Silver Eagles were issued.
The obverse design, known as Walking Liberty, is the work of Adolph A. Weinman. Lady Liberty is shown striding toward her left with her hand outstretched toward the rising sun. She carries oak boughs and is draped in the Stars and Stripes. "LIBERTY" is spaced around the top rim is bold lettering while "IN GOD WE TRUST" appears to the bottom-right in smaller text. The year of issue "2018" is inscribed at the bottom rim. The edge design is reeded.
John Mercanti, the former Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, designed the heraldic eagle that appears on the reverse. The eagle holds arrows and an olive branch in its talons and carries a banner reading "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. An arrangement of thirteen stars is placed over the eagle's head. Rim inscriptions include the issuing country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" along the top and "1 OZ. FINE SILVER~ONE DOLLAR" along the bottom.
Weinman's beloved "Walking Liberty" motif was actually first used on the U.S. half dollar from 1916 to 1947. The design's symbolism embodies deep-seated American ideals and is appreciated for its artistic merit. The 2018 American Silver Eagle NGC MS69 First Day of Issue - Bald Eagle Label adds multiple layers of collectible appeal to this .999 fine silver coin, and comes safely encapsulated in NGC's hard plastic holder.
