Coin collectors have been drawn to the precious metal content of modern bullion coins as well as their inspired designs. The 2018 $25 American Gold Eagle (NGC MS70 Early Release) meets both of these objectives and more! The MS70 grade from NGC is the highest possible that any coin can receive. It is also certified Early Releases by NGC, indicating the coin was graded within 30 days of being issued. Each coin contains one-half troy ounce (0.5 troy oz) of actual gold weight (AGW) and a $25 face value. It is struck from 22-karat (.917 fine) gold.
The obverse design originally appeared on U.S. $20 gold coins in the early 20th century. It shows Lady Liberty carrying an illuminated torch as she strides toward the top of a hill overlooking the U.S. Capitol. Beams of sunlight spread out behind Lady Liberty. The legend "LIBERTY" is inscribed above her head while the year of issue "2018" is placed to her right. 50 stars round the perimeter of the design.
The reverse design uses Miley Busiek's depiction of a family of eagles. A mother eagle sits in her nest protecting her two eaglets while the father returns to the nest holding an olive branch. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed at the top rim. The pair of national mottoes "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" are found near the middle of the design. The precious metal weight and face value appear at the bottom rim.
There is no higher grade a coin can receive than MS70, making this 2018 $25 American Gold Eagle NGC MS70 (Early Release) an exceptional example of this half-ounce gold coin. Order yours online, over the phone, or in person in our luxury showroom at Gainesville Coins!
