There are a number of advantages of owning a graded modern gold coin. This 2018 $25 American Gold Eagle has been graded MS69 (Early Release) by NGC, the second-highest possible grade! The coin is struck from .917 fine gold and contains a total of one-half troy ounce (0.5 troy oz) of pure gold by weight. Its legal tender face value is $25.
The obverse bears the Saint-Gaudens design of Lady Liberty. Miss Liberty is shown marching forward as she carries a torch and an oak branch. 50 stars encircle the design and the year of issue "2018" is found to the bottom-right. The U.S. Capitol building and rays of brilliant sunlight appear in the background. The legend "LIBERTY" is prominently inscribed at the top rim. The edge is reeded.
On the reverse, a touching scene of a bald eagle family is shown. The father eagle is about to land in the nest where the mother eagle and their two young are huddled together. Inscriptions for the mottoes "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST" are found to the left and right, respectively. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" curls along the top rim. The coin's composition and denomination as legal tender are placed at the bottom rim: "1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD~25 DOLLARS."
