The American Gold Eagle is the official gold bullion coin of the U.S. Mint. Its fantastic designs celebrate American ideals while it also provides 22-karat gold to the public in the form of a legal tender coin. In mint condition grades, these coins are also widely collected. You can add the 2018 $10 American Gold Eagle (NGC MS70 Early Release) to your collection for a coin that has been certified with the highest grade possible, MS70! NGC also designated the coin Early Release, meaning it was received for grading within 30 days of being issued. The coin contains one-quarter troy oz (0.25 troy ounce) of pure gold by weight and bears a face value of $10.
The obverse uses the famous Saint-Gaudens portrait of Lady Liberty carrying a torch high above Capitol Hill. She marches forward holding an oak bough in her other arm. Radiant light emanates from behind Lady Liberty. Fifty stars round the outer rim while the legend "LIBERTY" appears at the top rim. The year-date "2018" is placed to Miss Liberty's right. The edge design is reeded.
On the reverse, a family of bald eagles is depicted. The father swoops down toward the nest where the mother and their two eaglets await. He is carrying an olive branch in his talons. The issuing nation "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" is inscribed at the top rim. "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" are found near the middle of the design. The weight and denomination are indicated along the bottom rim: "1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD~10 DOLLARS."
Fractional size Gold Eagles are popular because they come at a lower price point than larger gold coins, and they offer collectors and bullion investors more flexibility when they choose to sell their coins down the road.
