Details & Specifications

Modern bullion investors have been buying government-issued gold coins in large numbers since the 1980s. However, the industry has expanded into high-grade collectible coins, as well. PCGS has certified this 2018 $50 American Gold Eagle 1 oz coin as MS69 First Strike. This means it is one point shy of the highest grade possible and was also received by PCGS within 30 days of being struck at the mint. Additionally, the coin contains 1 troy ounce of pure gold and is 22 karats (.917 fine gold). As legal tender, it bears a face value of 50 Dollars.

The obverse uses Augustus Saint-Gaudens's 1907 design of Lady Liberty. She is shown striding confidently forward with a torch burning in her hand, reminiscent of the Statue of Liberty. An oak bough is held in her other hand. Radiant light emits from behind her and the Capitol building is seen in the distance. "LIBERTY" is inscribed at the top rim and fifty stars enclose the design. The year-date "2018" is placed to the right of Miss Liberty.

Miley Busiek's contemporary design of a bald eagle family graces the reverse. The mother eagle sits with her two babies in the nest while the father flies toward them carrying an olive branch. "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is inscribed to the left and "IN GOD WE TRUST" is placed to the right. Inscriptions for the weight and denomination appear at the bottom rim. The issuing country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" rounds the top rim. The edge design is reeded.

The market for graded Gold Eagle coins continues to grow. Exceptional examples from a reputable third-party grading service like this 2018 $50 American Gold Eagle 1 oz PCGS MS69 First Strike are always in demand and command a premium over ungraded coins. Buy from Gainesville Coins for low prices, great service, and secure storage for your gold and silver!
