Thanks to key changes to federal laws in the mid-1980s, the U.S. Mint began annually producing its own gold bullion coin, the American Gold Eagle. The series has increasingly drawn interest from collectors. This 2018 $10 American Gold Eagle PCGS MS70 First Strike was professionally graded and received an MS70 from PCGS, the highest possible grade! Additionally, the designation as a First Strike means the coin was received from grading within 30 days of being issued by the mint. Each coin contains one-quarter troy ounce (0.25 troy oz) of fine gold content and is struck from .917 fine gold. It's face value as legal tender is $10.
The Saint-Gaudens Liberty design appears on the obverse. Lady Liberty is shown proceeding to a hilltop carrying a lit torch. The Capitol building appears off in the distance. Fifty stars are spread around the outer rim and the legend "LIBERTY" is inscribed at the top rim. The year of issue "2018" is found at the bottom-right.
The reverse design depicts a family of four bald eagles gathered around their nest. The two eaglets sit safely in the nest with their mother while the father eagle is flying back to the nest. He carries an olive branch in his talons. The bottom rim includes the inscriptions "1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD~10 DOLLARS" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" rounds the top rim. The edge is reeded.
