The U.S. Mint continues to produce exceptional bullion coins with its Gold Eagle series. This 2018 $5 American Gold Eagle received the best possible grade, MS70, from Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS)! Even better, it is certified First Strike so it was graded by PCGS within 30 days of first being issued by the mint. Aside from its exceptional grade, this 2018 1/10 oz Gold Eagle is struck from .917 fine gold, bears a $5 face value as legal tender, and contains one-tenth troy ounce (0.1 troy oz) of fine gold content.
The obverse design reproduces the classic Saint-Gaudens engraving of Lady Liberty. She carries a lit torch above her head while her other arm is outstretched holding an oak bough. "LIBERTY" is emblazoned across the top rim while the outer rim is lined with fifty stars. The year of issue "2018" is placed to Miss Liberty's right, and the U.S. Capitol sits in the distance in the bottom-left of the design.
On the reverse, Miley Busiek's portrayal of a family of eagles is shown. The mother eagle protects her two young in the nest while her mate returns carrying an olive branch. On either side of the eagles are inscriptions for the national mottoes "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST." The weight and denomination are inscribed at the bottom rim. The issuing country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" rounds the top rim.
The Gold Eagle series was introduced in 1986 and has been issued in sizes of 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz each year since. This gives collectors as well as bullion investors a number of different options to choose from. Add this 2018 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle PCGS MS70 First Strike to your portfolio or collection from Gainesville Coins.
