The Australian Perth Mint has updated its much-admired Lunar Series with the 2018 1/4 oz Colorized Lunar Dog coin. Each of these beautiful and colorful coins contains one-quarter troy ounce (0.25 troy oz) of pure silver. They are struck from .9999 fine silver and bear a face value of 25 Cents.
The obverse design is graced by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who faces right. "ELIZABETH II" and the issuing country "AUSTRALIA" run along the top rim. The bottom rim includes inscriptions for the specifications "1/4oz 9999 Ag," the year of issue "2018," and the denomination "25 CENTS." The edge design is reeded.
The reverse design shows Ing Ing Jong's artistic depiction of a pair of German shepherds. The adult is lying down facing right while an adorable puppy is seen just below. Both dogs are rendered in vibrant color, standing out against the silver of the coin. The Chinese character for the Lunar Year of the Dog is placed near the top of the coin. A peony, a Chinese flowering plant, appears to the left. The inscription "Year of the Dog" runs along the bottom rim.
Perth Mint's Lunar Series is now in its second cycle. It has remained consistently popular among coin collectors and bullion investors alike. The Year of the Dog falls every twelve years, so it won't return again until 2030. Make sure you get your 2018 Colorized 1/4 oz Silver Dog from Gainesville Coins while you still can!
