2019 marked the Year of the Pig in the Chinese zodiac, and once again the Perth Mint is celebrating with its Lunar series of bullion coins. The only fractional size is the 2019 Lunar Pig 1/2 oz Silver Coin, which is available for competitive pricing at Gainesville Coins! Each of these coins is struck from extra-pure .9999 fine silver and contains one-half troy ounce (0.5 oz) of pure silver by weight. Their legal tender denomination is 50 cents.
The reverse design features an adult pig in a rural scene along with a handful of piglets. "Year of the Pig" is inscribed along the bottom rim, just beneath the piglets. In addition to the Chinese character for "Lunar Pig," a tree branch full of leaves is placed near the top of the design. The edge design is reeded.
On the obverse, the right-facing profile of HM Queen Elizabeth II is shown. Her Majesty is surrounded by inscriptions along the rim that read "ELIZABETH II" and the issuing nation "AUSTRALIA" around the top, as well as "1/2 OZ 9999 Ag," the year-date "2019," and the denomination "50 CENTS" along the bottom of the design. The artist's initials "IRB" are just below the Queen's neck.
According to the Chinese zodiac (i.e. Lunar calendar), people born under the sign of the Pig are said to possess a calm temperament, loyalty, honesty, sincerity, and generosity. Celebrate this millennia-old tradition in .9999 fine silver by adding the 2019 Perth Mint Lunar Year of the Pig 1/2 oz Silver Coin to your portfolio or collection today!
