The Silver Kangaroo is perhaps the best-known entry in the Perth Mint's famous bullion coin series that celebrate Australia's distinctive natural wildlife. Struck from .9999 fine silver, each of these coins contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver content.
In addition to a stellar design that includes cutting-edge security features, these coins are Australian legal tender with a face value of $1.
The same popular reverse design is back for the Silver Kangaroo in 2019. The iconic red kangaroo is shown hopping toward the left at the center of the design. The kangaroo is surrounded by radiant beams of light similar to a sunburst. the legend "AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO" is inscribed along the top rim. Within one of the "As" of "AUSTRALIAN" there is a tiny, micro-engraved letter "A" that can be seen under magnification, which helps deter counterfeiters. At the bottom rim, the year-date "2019" is followed by the specifications "1oz 9999 SILVER."
On the obverse, we see Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II facing toward the right in a brand new portrait. This latest effigy is the work of artist Jody Clark. She is surrounded by rim inscriptions that include the issuing country "AUSTRALIA," the denomination (face value) of "1 DOLLAR," and the Queen's name "ELIZABETH II." The edge of the coin uses a reeded design.
The kangaroo is probably the single most easily recognized symbol of Australian wildlife. More so than any other animal, it is immediately associated with its home country—the only location on Earth where you'll find these distinctive marsupials.
