When the first-ever Silver Krugerrand coin was issued by South Africa in 2017, it was intended as a one-time commemorative. However, the coin has proven to be so popular that it has continued as an annually released bullion product!
Each Silver Krugerrand is struck from .999 fine silver and contains 1 troy ounce of pure silver content by weight.
The design of the coin very closely resembles the original gold version of the Krugerrand. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of South Africa's "founding father," Paul Kruger, that was designed by Otto Schultz. An image of a springbok, created by artist Coert Steynberg, appears on the reverse along with the year-date.
The finish on each side of the design is Brilliant Uncirculated (BU).
As legal tender, each Silver Krugerrand coin bears a face value of 1 Rand, the national currency of South Africa.
In addition to building on the history and popularity of the Gold Krugerrand, these 2019 1 oz South African Silver Krugerrands (BU) are an excellent way to make government-issued silver coins part of your collection or portfolio.
