The new year brings another new design to the popular 2019 Australia 1 oz Silver Kookaburra Perth Mint - BU In Capsule. This coin series has been in annual production since 1990, and its relatively modest mintage totals have given it appeal among some modern bullion coin collectors, as well.
The "Silver Kook" is now struck from .9999 fine (99.99% pure) silver at Perth Mint. This is a refining feat only a few government mints have succeeded in doing for a coin series produced each year.
Each Kookaburra coin contains 1 troy ounce (31.1 g) of pure silver by weight. Its legal tender face value in Australia is 1 Dollar.
This year's reverse design for 2019 depicts the distinctive kookaburra perched on a root protruding from the water. The sun is seen at the horizon. Exquisite care was taken to bring out the detail in the kookaburra's feathers and general appearance. The specifications year-date "2019" and the specifications "1oz 9999 SILVER" are inscribed at the bottom rim.
The obverse design bears the updated effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, created by artist Jody Clark. Rim inscriptions read "ELIZABETH II," the issuing country "AUSTRALIA," and the denomination "ONE DOLLAR." The edge uses a reeded pattern.
