The American Eagle gold coin is synonymous with Lady Liberty. Since 1986 a rendition of sculptor Adolph A. Weinman’s wondrous “Walking Liberty” has styled the Obverse of the American Eagle gold coin, symbolizing vigilance and resolute faithfulness to duty, Lady “Liberty” also walked back in 1907 when the Saint Gaudens gold coin design first appeared on the US $20 Double Eagle. American Eagle rare Gold coins are available in both Proof and Uncirculated 1/10, 1/4, 1/2 and 1 ounce sizes, as well as a complete four-coin set.

The Gold Eagle

Like the Silver American Eagle, the Gold Eagle was first minted by the US Government in 1986, after its release was authorized by the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. The official gold coin of the United States is issued in 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz, and 1 oz denominations and is guaranteed by the US Government for its gold composition and weight. It is mandatory that all gold in American Eagles be mined from United States resources.

The US Mint also produces a proof version for collectors. The historical significance and the classic beauty of the Gold Eagle’s designs make it a great addition for collections. The obverse of the coin depicts Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Lady Liberty, while the reverse of the gold coin features Miley Busiek’s beautiful illustration of two resilient eagles. The male carrying an olive branch above the nesting female in Busiek’s design reflects the endurance and security America stands for. The proof version is produced at the West Point Mint in West Point, New York, and is struck with the Mint’s mark (“W”).

In addition to being a patriotic collectors’ item, the gold American Eagle is America’s leading gold coin for investment portfolios. Since gold is a precious metal that is regularly in demand on the world markets, investors choose to add gold bullion coins like the Gold Eagle for financial security, stability, and liquidity.
