Buy Gold French 20 Franc Rooster - (.1867 oz of Gold)

As one of Europe's most popular gold coins, the Gold French 20 Franc Rooster (0.1867 AGW) celebrates France's unofficial national symbol; the Gallic Rooster. Minted between 1898-1914, the coin was struck in .900 fine gold by the Paris Mint.

The obverse features the head of France's Third Republic, which was established after Napoleon III's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. The Third Republic survived until 1940 amidst World War II. France now operates under the Fifth Republic.

On the reverse of the coin is a proud rooster, coming to symbolize the fighting spirit of the French Revolution. The coin's denomination, "20 FCS," appears at the rooster's feet, with the year at the very bottom of the coin. The phrase "LIBERTE EGALITE FRATERNITE" (Liberty, equality, fraternity (brotherhood)) encircles the rooster, which became popular during the French Revolution.

Such an awesome looking coin! I don't know why people buy modern issued bullion when you can buy something like this which has history and is priced similar if not better than something like a gold eagle.

I've traditionally been a "silver man", so this was my first gold order in 30 years since it's hit a low recently. Arrived quickly and in excellent packaging. Details of coin are in great shape. I'd say it would rate Extra Fine or slightly more. Very few scratches or wear.

one of my favorite fractional size gold coins. It's definitely right up there with the British sovereign.
