Following in the footsteps of its gold cousin, the Silver Maple Leaf first hit the international market in 1988. It has gained notoriety and popularity among investors and modern coin collectors in the three decades since.
Each 2019 1 oz Canadian Silver Maple Leaf is struck from extra-pure .9999 fine silver. The Maple Leaf contains one troy ounce of pure silver by weight and is designated with a legal tender face value of 5 Dollars (CAD).
The obverse design shows the well-known national symbol of Canada, the maple leaf. It is the work of artist Walter Ott. A pattern of radial lines fills the background, doubling as an anti-counterfeiting feature. On either side of the leaf, the purity "9999" is divided. Inscriptions along the outer rim include the issuing country "CANADA" and the specifications "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR." A small micro-engraved maple leaf with the number "19" is placed just above this inscription, serving as another anti-counterfeiting measure.
Susanna Blunt's portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II graces the reverse of the coin. She is shown without her tiara but wears a pearl necklace. The Queen faces right and is surrounded by inscriptions around the outer rim, including "ELIZABETH II" at the top rim and "5 DOLLARS 2019" along the bottom rim. The same radial line finish is used in the background and the coin's edge is reeded.
Over the last thirty years, the Silver Maple Leaf has solidified its place in the international bullion trade. It continues to be one of the most trusted choice for those looking to Buy Silver Coins.
