The Austrian Mint has updated its crown jewel, the Gold Vienna Philharmonic coin, for 2019! In fact, it's the series' 30th anniversary.
The "Gold Philly" was first issued in 1989, and was one of the earliest entrants in the global bullion coin market to be struck from .9999 fine gold.
Each Gold Philarhomnic has a nominal face value of 100 euro and contains 1 troy ounce (31.1 g) of pure gold by weight.
Thomas Pesendorfer's brilliant design of orchestral instruments graces the reverse of the coin. Inscriptions on both sides of the coin are in classic Gothic lettering. "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" curls above the instrument ensemble.
The great pipe organ from Vienna's famous music hall, or Misikverein, where the national Philharmonic Orchestra often performs, is shown from a straight-on perspective on the obverse. The specifications "1 UNZE GOLD 999.9" and the year "2019" are inscribed below, along with the denomination "100 EURO." The top rim reads "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH" (Republic of Austria) in the same typeface.
