The Ledendary
Chiwoo Cheonwang
Chiwoo Cheonwang is best known as the mascot of the "Red Devils," the dedicated fans of the Korean national soccer team. He is credited with helping power the team to their remarkable run to the World Cup semifinals in 2002. Chiwoo is also regarded as the God of War in Korean mythology and is recorded in ancient legends as the 14th head of state of Shinshi, the first ancient Korean state. He acquired the title Cheonwang, meaning "Heavenly King." In addition to wearing a terrifying devil-like mask, Chiwoo Cheonwang was said to manipulate the weather with storms and fog to bring him victory on the battlefield.
1/2 Oz Silver Chiwoo
This new half-ounce silver medallion from the Republic of Korea is limited to a mintage of 10,000 and is only available at Gainesville Coins.

Silver Chiwoo Coin Reverse Design
Chiwoo is shown riding on horseback in full body armor, including his devil-like mask. His shield bears the intimidating face of Do ggae bi. The horse is rearing on its hind legs in anticipation of battle. The inscription "CHIWOO CHEONWANG" appears against the rim to the left. A reeded design is used for the edge.

Silver Chiwoo Coin Obverse Design
A roof tile from the 7th-century Silla Dynasty known as Gwi-myeon-wa (also Yong-myeon-wa) is placed at the center of the design. The tile depicts Do ggae bi, a supernatural being said to ward off evil spirits -- hence its popularity for hundreds of years on the roofs of Korean homes. A special latent image of "Ag" and "999" is placed in a circle below as a security feature. Rim inscriptions include "2017 FINE SILVER 999," "REPUBLIC OF KOREA," "1/2 CLAY," and the KOMSCO logo.

Silver Chiwoo Coin Security
KOMSCO has gained a reputation for highly secure silver bullion that is virtually impossible to counterfeit thanks to its use of latent image technology. This special security feature placed on the obverse is accomplished through proprietary minting technology and ensures that each piece is .999 fine silver.

Exclusive at GC
This is the first time that Chiwoo Cheonwang silver bullion has ever been issued in a 1/2 oz size. You will only find it at Gainesville Coins! They can be purchased individually or in rolls of 25.

About KOMSCO
As the official state mint of South Korea, KOMSCO's silver and gold medallions are some of the most successful recent entrants into the global bullion trade. KOMSCO introduced the new concept of "Clay" as a face value or denomination. 1/2 Clay represents one troy ounce of fine silver. The name references the earth and dirt that comprise the Gwi-myeon-wa (Yong-myeon-wa) roof tile.
