Slightly less well-known than its gold counterpart, the Chinese Silver Panda is still one of the most coveted silver coins on the market, as well as the official silver bullion coin of the People's Republic of China. The 2015 1 oz Chinese Silver Panda coin is now here at Gainesville Coins! Struck from .999 fine silver, each of these coins contains 1 troy oz of fine silver content and is designated with a legal tender face value of 10 Yuan. With its changing reverse design each year, the Silver Panda has also gained a following among coin collectors who appreciate the artistic integrity of the series.
The new reverse design for 2015 depicts an adult panda laying comfortably on its backside as it munches on a handful of bamboo leaves. A crisscrossing leaf pattern fills in the field above and below the image, while a wall of bamboo stalks fills in the background behind the panda. The denomination is represented by the number "10" and the character for "yuan" found in the upper-right corner.
The obverse features the familiar Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, a distinctive building within the Temple of Heaven. It is an important UNESCO World Heritage site that has long been a fixture on the obverse of Chinese coins. The year-date "2015" is placed below the image in an outer ring, while simplified Chinese characters running along the rim above translate to "People's Republic of China."
The Chinese Silver Panda series made its debut in 1983, and the standard 1 oz Uncirculated version of the coin has been annually produced every year since 1989. It is a series littered with varieties and low mintages, and thus has generated considerable collector demand. The coin you will receive comes safely encapsulated in its own coin capsule.
