Buy 2018 5 oz Australia Silver Dog Lunar Coin (BU in Capsule)

Perth Mint is back with its beloved Lunar Series coins, honoring the Year of the Dog with its 2018 Lunar Dog 5 oz Silver Coin. Struck from extra-pure .9999 fine silver, these coins each are given a face value of $8 AUD. In total, each coin contains 5 troy ounces of fine silver content.

The reverse design depicts a two dogs, an adult and a puppy, laying down. Both dogs are of the German Shephard breed. The legend "Year of the Dog" is inscribed near the bottom rim. To the left of the adult dog, the character for "Dog" in the Chinese Lunar calendar is shown. (There is actually a separate Chinese character for a dog the animal rather than the Lunar Year.)

The obverse features an image of HM Queen Elizabeth II facing left. Around the outer rim, the coin's weight and purity, the year of issue "2018," the denomination, and issuing country "AUSTRALIA" are inscribed.

As with each of the 12 signs of the Lunar calendar (also known as the Chinese zodiac), there are certain qualities associated with those born in the Year of the Dog: bravery, affability, and of course loyalty. This makes the Dog one of the most auspicious signs in the Lunar calendar.
