The 2020 "Pilgrims" 1 oz silver round is the first design in the exclusive "Frontiers" series from the Mason Mint. Each high relief silver round is struck from one troy ounce of .999 fine silver.
The reverse of the "Pilgrims" silver round portrays the profiles of three people: a man and woman Pilgrim, and a warrior of the local Pequot tribe, all facing left. The field to the left, bordering the Native American man, portrays a tribal village. Two people sit by a campfire in front of a longhouse, as another person stands nearby. Above this scene is a deer hide stretched on a frame, and painted in hieroglyphs.
Behind the Pilgrim couple is a seaside village, with a sailing ship docked by one building. A man wearing a breastplate and carrying a gun over his shoulder is accompanied by a woman with a pail, and another woman carrying a baby. Above the village is a Bible, representing the religious freedom that the Pilgrims fled to the American wilderness to find.
The top rim of the coin bears the title "PILGRIM" in a type style contemporary with the Pilgrims. The bottom rim bears the inscription "Forging Frontier Friendships." A sheaf of corn appears above the inscription, symbolizing the aid given to the Pilgrims by the neighboring Native American tribes. 45 of the original 102 Pilgrims died of disease, cold, and malnutrition the first winter in America. The remaining Pilgrims would likely have perished in the next winter, without the knowledge passed on by the natives.
The obverse of the 2020 Pilgrims silver round is shared by all three designs in the Frontiers series. The busts of a Pilgrim, an astronaut, and a frontiersman surround a compass. A banner below the trio bears the series name, "Frontiers". In small letters below the banner are the words "2020 1 oz .999 silver."
The inscription "Exploring New Horizons On Earth and Beyond" occupies the remaining three quarters of the rim. The Mayflower appears behind the Pilgrim, the wooded mountains beyond the Appalachian mountains are seen behind the frontiersman, and the planets of the Solar System spread behind the astronaut.
The 2020 "Pilgrims" Frontier silver round is available both in this Brilliant Uncirculated finish, and also a hand-applied antique finish.
