The most popular silver bullion coin in Europe is the Austrian Silver Philharmonic.
Since making its debut in 2008, millions of these one-ounce silver coins have been struck by the Austrian Mint. It has a face value of 1.5 euro and a purity of .999 fine silver. The actual silver weight (ASW) is 1 troy ounce.
Like its gold counterpart, the Silver Philharmonic measures exactly 37 mm in diameter. However, it is thicker (3.2 mm) and has a plain edge design.
The design of the "Silver Philly" is the work of engraver Thomas Pesendorfer.
The obverse shows a front view of the grand pipe organ in Vienna's famous Musikverein music hall. The issuing nation "REPUBLIK OSTERREICH" appears at the top rim. Below the organ, the year-date "2024" is flanked by the specifications "1 UNZE FEINSILBER" and the denomination "1,50 EURO." The edge of the coin is smooth rather than reeded.
An array of orchestral instruments graces the reverse design. It includes a Vienna horn, a bassoon, a harp, a cello, and four violins. "SILBER" (the German word for "silver") appears near the top rim in small text. The inscription for the series name "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER" is found above.
