10-Year graph of gold prices
This chart covers two periods of record gold prices. The first is the bull market in gold from 2009 to 2011, where gold made a closing record high of $1,923 an ounce. Prices trended lower afterwards, as the stock market built on the longest expansion in history. Gold prices bottomed out at $1,055 on December 2, 2015.
The following uptrend turned into a boom in gold prices in 2020. Gold hit six successive all-time highs over nine trading days at the end of July, from $1,974 to $2,081 per troy oz.
