American Gold Eagles - Uncirculated

The American Gold Eagle was the first investment-grade gold bullion coin of the United States. Struck from durable 22K "crown gold" to reduce wear and scratches, each Gold Eagle has the stated amount of pure gold content in addition to miniscule amounts of silver and copper.

Started in 1986 in response to demands for a domestic gold investment coin to compete with the South African Krugerrand, the American Gold Eagle bullion coin comes in four sizes: one oz, half-ounce, quarter-ounce, and 1/10th ounce. All versions share the same design on front and back.

The front is a modern revival of the 1907 $20 Double Eagle design of famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens. Saint-Gaudens was personally selected to rejuvenate the moribund designs of U.S. coinage, and his Double Eagle design is considered by many to be the most beautiful coin ever produced by the United States.

The reverse is an original design by Miley Busiek, to evoke the ideals of family and unity. In this scene, a father American Bald Eagle brings an olive branch to his family's nest, while the mother eagle cradles their eaglet with her wings.

Gold Eagle bullion coins are made only from freshly-mined gold from United States mines, as mandated by law. The face value on these coins means that they are U.S. legal tender, and their weight and purity are backed by the government of the United States. When buying gold, pick the patriotic choice!
