The 1884-O Morgan dollar had a substantial 9.7 million coin mintage.Since many of these ended up in storage, there is an ample supply of Mint State survivors. The 1884-O is the most plentiful New Orleans Morgan dollar in Mint State, and probably the most common Mint State Morgan dollar other than the 1921.

The Value of a 1884-O Morgan Dollar

The 1884-O Morgan dollar is easy to find in both circulated and uncirculated versions. Many 1884-O Morgans suffer from a soft strike, though generally not as bad as other years. The large number of survivors helps when looking for a good strike. Luster is below average on many 17884-Os. The weak center on the obverse keeps many Mint State 1884-O Morgans from a grade higher than MS65.
