The 1923-S Peace dollar is the largest Peace dollar mintage from San Francisco. Unfortunately, it is also an example of “quantity over quality.” The usually poor strike characteristic of San Francisco Peace dollars possibly reached its nadir with the 1923-S.
The Value of a 1923-S Peace Dollar
Generally poor strikes combined with careless storage resulted in most 1923-S Peace dollars being particularly unattractive. It will take effort to find an example that is both well-struck and not excessively marred by bagmarks.
